Description
Ledburn is a scattered hamlet in the north of the parish containing several buildings of the 17th and 18th centuries, including Ledburn Manor House, which was probably originally built in the latter half of the 15th century. The settlement is first mentioned in the 13th century. Ledburn manor may have originated in some of the smaller holdings in Mentmore and is first recorded in the 15th century, but by the late sixteenth century appears to have been absorbed back into holdings in Mentmore and no longer considered a genuine manor (B1).
Ledburn is first mentioned in legal documents in 1288, with later references in the 14th, 15th and 17th centuries (B2).
'Ledborn Gr.' and later 'Ledburn' is marked on OS maps from about 1813 onwards (B3).
