Description

North Dean is first mentioned in 1205 when 'Nich de la Nordene' is recorded as owing homage and service to 'Rolf de Hughenden'. Its name is derived from its location at the north end of Hughenden parish. Upper North Dean Conservation Area designated in 1982 (B1).
To the north-east of Walter's Ash beyond Courn's Wood is the hamlet of North Dean, once the property of Sir William Lawrence Young, bart., and formerly the residence of the Young family (B2).
