Description

The work in Phases 1A and 5 has revealed a poorly dated rectilinear pattern of field boundaries, largely located immediately to the east of the Rusholt Brook, although a number of elements do appear to extend into the area to the west of the Brook…The previous desk-based assessment noted that the late 18th and 19th century maps indicated that the present pattern of fields within the site has not changed markedly in the last 200 years. The field systems revealed by the stripping appear closely associated with the pattern of long, narrow fields further to the east. These fields probably represent the late medieval to post-medieval inclosure of strips and furlongs that were previously part of open field systems (B1).
