Description

Original buildings of Amersham and Wycombe College (Amersham Campus) dating to 1963-1978, with a later addition built prior to 1991 with associated landscaping and car parking. Assessment concludes that substantial terracing of the site would have had a severe and widespread impact on any underlying archaeological deposits whilst the cutting of foundations and services will have had a more localised impact (B1).
Built in 1972 as Amersham College of Further Education and Art, to designs by John Sexton of Buckinghamsire County Council's architect's department, with a large extension by John Stewart, also of the county architect's department added in 1987. The original building of red brick faced with white mosaic tiles on a reinforced concreteframe, was designed around a double courtyard. The later extension provided a new library, lecture theatre, computer rooms and drama space. Subsequent external alterations to the building include the replacement of the mosaic tiles with render and window replacement. Assessed for listing by Historic England in 2023, but declined as the building does not have claim to architectural distinction in its design or execution to mark it out as of special interest in the national context and the building has undergone alteration; notable externally is the loss of the mosaic tilework (B2).
