Description

Evaluation trial trenching carried out in July 2008 by John Moore Heritage Services on the possible line of Grim's Ditch at Lacey Green School was inconclusive. The edge of a large irregular pit or ditch was found with a single fragment of medieval or post-medieval roof tile from its primary fill and brick fragments from later fills. Possibly part of Grim's Ditch or a post-medieval clay extraction pit: it is possible that Grim's Ditch was open and mainitained and that the tile fragment dates the beginning of the abandonment of this stretch of the monument, although the feature sampled bears closer resemblance to a brick pit than a ditch (B1).
