Description

120 struck flints and 8 burnt flints recovered during evaluation trial trenching carried out in August and September 2006 by Archaeological Solutions. There were no apparent concentrations of finds: a small number of struck flints were recovered from many trenches broadly distributed across the site. The struck flint is consistent with a late prehistoric date, the majority of pieces are flakes with few blades present, cores are infrequent and are more like lumps of flint with removals, as opposed to planned pieces and there is a marked lack of retouch, except the end scrapers from the topsoil overlying trenches 27 and 181. The topsoil over trench 27 also produced a core fragment (B1).
