  • WALL (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD to 1798 AD)

Description

Wall appeared to be laid directly on the ground. The bricks are dark red, hand made, without frog. Despite careful investigation there was no indication of a corner or return along its length or generally of any internal layers. However, at the east end on the south side there were indications of a possible floor of broken floor tile, laid horizontally and neatly fitting the corner. This is a light red hand made clay tile, 1/2 inch thick but unfortunately not enough to ascertain horizontal size. What tile remained showed thumb marks on the surface, with grit inclusions. All the indications are of relatively poor quality (B1)
