Description

'School (Boys & Girls)' shown on 1st edition 25-inch map and on subsequent 6-inch OS maps until the late 1950s or early 1960s when it is shown as disused. Modern OS mapping shows the building as a village hall and house (B1).
An elementary school at North End. The Church of England School at North End mentioned in the will of Benjamin Bartlett in 1869. North End is now [1925] a council school (B2).
The School House is turned at right angles to the lane. A flint building with yellow brick dressings The School House dates from the late 19th century. There is a 20th century extension to match the original to the left. The house has gables over the first floor windows with decorative bargeboards. The dwelling has a mixture of windows, some are metal framed casements, others have wooden frames. In a building of this date the mixture of window types adds character to the dwelling. The Village Hall is attached to The School House and is of the same materials and dates fron circa 1870. There is a simple board door to the front and the bell housing remains at the top of the right gable, although the bell itself has been removed. To the rear of the building is the old out-house of red brick with original vertical plank doors and open clerestory in the roof (B3).
