Description
Grade II. Stable. Early C19. For the Dashwood Estate. Flint with red brick quoins, surrounds, stepped dentilled eaves, and east gable. Plain tile roof, half-hipped at west end. One storey with loft. 4 bays. Yard (south) elevation has wide stable door to bay 4 with drain on right, vent on left, and flanking windows; similar door at left end with window on right. Windows are small-paned. All openings have segmental brick arches. Rear: central loft door rising through eaves under gablet; added lean-to on right not of special interest. Right return: loft opening with board door. Interior: left end is board-lined and has 2 stalls with wooden trough and manger. The rest has partitions to divide area into stalling for 2, 6, 6 and 2 cows with wooden troughs and mangers and gap in floorboards above to enable filling of mangers from above. Wooden pegs; wooden corn shoot from loft. Ladder up to loft which has roof trusses dividing it into 7 bays; principal rafter trusses with curved braces up to collars; clasped purlins; plank ridge on yokes. The stable is an important element of this farmyard group and retains its original interior fillings. It is probably similar in date to the farmhouse which is dated 1819. (B1).
