Description
Watching brief carried out by Thames Valley Archaeological Services in July 2009 during groundworks for a replacement garage identified the remains of a post-medieval or modern brick and stone wall footing and a recut boundary ditch. The wall footing comprised three courses of brick foundations with sandy mortar and a large sandstone block above and may be the remains of a building shown at this location on the first edition OS map. The ditch was v-shaped, 2.69m wide and 0.66m deep, aligned roughly NW-SE and appeared to have been recut twice as a vertical-sided, flat-bottomed ditch 0.64m-0.67m wide and 0.56m-0.77m deep. The ditches are on the line of the current parish boundary and it is suggested that they represent property boundaries pre-dating the first edition OS maps. See report for detail (B1).
