Description

Probable eighteenth or nineteenth century cast iron milepost on Buckingham to Brill road in Gawcott hamlet recorded by P.N.Jarvis of Bletchley Archaeological and Historical Society, in January 1965. One of 12 recorded on this road. Not shown on Bryant's, Jefferies' or historical OS maps. Painted figures. Inscription: BUCKINGHAM 2 : BRILL 13. [Drawing and location] (B1).
Recorded as national ID number BU_BRBU14 on updated Milestones Society website in 2010 on Brill to Buckingham route. Diamond shape on unclassified road. Inscription differs from that recorded in 1965. Inscription: left: BRILL 14: right: BUCKINGHAM 2: top: BUCKINGHAM PARISH. [Description and location] (B2).
Mile posts Buckingham to Brill, information from Max Davies. NGR: SP683314. Parish: Buckingham. Not shown on 1835 1" OS map. Metal milepost, rusty but clear with painted letters etc: ('Brill 14 Buckingham 2'). Metal mile posts on Buckingham to Brill road. No makers name. All similar design. [Sketches](B3).
