Description

Probable eighteenth to nineteenth cast iron milepost on Buckingham to Brill road in Buckingham recorded by P.N.Jarvis [ Bletchley Archaeological and Historical Society ] in January 1965. One of 12 on this road. All present on current OS map though not recorded as such in 1965. All had painted figures. Inscription: BUCKINGHAM 1: BRILL 14. See is Brill 15 below this is correct NGR. [ Sample drawing and location available ] (B1).
Recorded on Milestones Society updated website in 2010 national ID number BU_BRBU15 on Brill to Buckingham route. Diamond shape on unclassified road. Marked with an X in record may be missing. Inscription differs from that recorded in 1965. Inscription: left: BRILL 15: BUCKINGHAM 1: top: BUCKINGHAM PARISH. [ Further description available ] (B2).
Confirmed by handwritten notes under " MILE POSTS BUCKINGHAM to BRILL ( Max Davies only )". NGR: 688 327. Parish: ? . Number on 1" OS 1835 none. Information: Poor condition: metal mile post: some painted letters etc: ( Brill 15. Buck-1). Illus as over.Illustration annotated: Metal mile posts on Buckingham to Brill road. No makers name.
