Description

Probable eighteenth to nineteenth century cast iron milepost on Buckingham to Brill road in Brill parish northeast of Brill village recorded by P N Jarvis [ Bletchley Archaeological and Historical Society ] in January 1965. One of 12 on this road. Not on Bryant or Jefferies or on any maps on data base or on aerial photography. Position estimated from grid ref on record card. Painted figures. Inscription:' BUCKINGHAM 12 BRILL 3'. [ Sample drawing and location available ] (B1).
Confirmed by handwriten notes in HER including field trips especially in 1980s under " MILE POSTS BUCKINGHAM to BRILL. ( MAX Davies only )". No sign of last 2 mile posts Brill 2 Buck 12 and Brill 1 Buck 13. Illustration annotated: Metal mile posts on Buckingham to Brill road. No makers name. All similar design. Parish on top Brill to L Buckingham to R. Mileage differs from 1965 survey. [ Handwritten notes consulted ] (B2).
