This important route betwee Brili and Buckingham through Grendon Underwood was never turnpiked. When trust closed in 1880s and 1890 Highway Authorities county or distict or parish put milemarkers along thos rod that the Miesstone Society calls Bucks Pressings standardised metal posts with two white faces and black lettering they were easier to read because of new technology but liable to rot at bottom or get knocked don they were use for missing milemarkers on other roads incounty particlaly in middle and north. According to PG they are part modern record of 116 in conty ot of possible 230 from old records. During WW2 milemarkers throughou conty were moved from security reasons and sometimes not replaced.
