Description

Beaconsfield Sanitary Laundry established on land at 42 Aylesbury End by 1914. Maidenhead and District Laundry was possibly on the same site by 1925 and both businesses are listed in trade directories until 1939. From the 1950s only the Beaconsfield Sanitary Laundry is listed in trade directories and OS maps show the laundry building had been extended by 1975. The Blue Dragon Laundry closed in 2001 and the building were demolished in 2007 (B1-2).
In March 2007 the laundry complex comprised a number of industrial-style units with 'a large 1930s two storey Art Deco façade over 11m in height fronting onto Horseshoe Crescent' (B3).
Trial trenching carried out by Archaeological Solutions in December 2007 concluded that the site had been heavily truncated by the laundry buildings. The only evidence of earlier activity on the site was a single residual sherd of medieval pottery (B2).
