Dimensions - Length 90m, Width 50m.
Plan Form - RECTANGULAR
CENTRAL AREA, NOW OVERGROWN WITH OSIERS, DIVIDED INTO PANS ALL CONNECTED TO DEEP WATERCOURSE SURROUNDING THE WHOLE. SOIL DUG OUT USED FOR RETAINING BANK ALONG S & E FORMING AMORPHOUS MOUNDS IN PLACES. CALLED 'THE TRENCHES' AND LOCALLY ATTRIBUTED TO CROMWELLIANS (B1-5).
PROB FISHPOND ASSOCIATED WITH MOAT [CASS 00301] (B4).
'Court Garden' shown on 1603 Treswell map and on 1607 Norden map at this approximate location (B6).
The Trenches interpreted by John Phibbs as remains of Elizabethan royal court garden comparable to the pleasaunce at Kenilworth and Bacon's water gardens at Gorehambury (B7).
