Description

There is evidence for two medieval markets at Wing. One was granted by a letter close dated 12th August 1218, by King Henry III to Henry son of Gerold. It was to be held on a Friday, and was decribed as 'mercatum'. It was to be held at the manor, and a mandate was sent to the sheriff of Buckinghamshire to cause him to have it. The second market was granted by charter dated 7th September 1255, by King Henry III to John de Warrenna. It was to be held on a Thursday at the manor. There is evidence for one medieval fair, granted by the 1255 charter to John de Warrenna. It was to be held on the vigil, feast and morrow of St Michael, which fell on the 29th September, and was to be held at the manor (B1)
