- GARDEN FEATURE? (Post-Medieval - 1540 AD? to 1798 AD?)
Description
Circular feature, possibly related to an earthwork mound associated with an adjacent pool, seen on a 1947 RAF AP and plotted as a cropmark (X1). Further north a cropmark enclosure, described as an apsidal ended enclosure with entrance at its east end and possible structure at its west end, seen on 1947 RAF AP and plotted as a cropmark (X3) is suggested to be associated with nearby finds of Roman date (B1).
The circular feature was not clearly visible on contemporary or later APs held at BCC although an oval soilmark was visible immediately to the SE of the pond. The apsidal enclosure is not visible on the copy of the specified AP or on other APs held by BCC (B2).
NGR to approx location of enclosure cropmark X3.
