Description
FORMER CHAPEL, DEDICATED TO ST.LEONARD; ON THE SPOT WHERE STOOD THE GREENHOUSE OF THE COUNTESS OF HERTFORD (AFTER DUCHESS OF SOMERSET). " ... At Richings Lodge, on the spot where the greenhouse stood, was formerly a chapel, dedicated to St Leonard" (B1).
NOTHING OF SIGNIFICANCE NOTED AT ALLEGED CHAPEL SITE. NO REFERENCE TO CHAPEL FOUND DURING RECORDING. EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A MANOR CHAPEL (B2).

In the 15th c, lands in Iver were held by the Richkings family, and may have formed the nucleus of Richings estate consisting of lands and a capital messuage called 'Richings Lodge'. The house was burnt down c 1786 and rebuilt on a fresh site (B4).
