Description

There is evidence for one medieval market at Hambleden. The market was granted by charter and was to be held on a Monday. The charter was dated 12th August 1315, and was granted by King Edward II to Bartholomew de Baddlesmere, and was to be held at the manor. The same charter also granted a fair, to be held on the vigil, feast and morrow of St Bartholomew, which fell on the 24th of August. The fair was also to be held at the manor. On 10th June 1325, King Edward II granted Hugh le Despenser son of Hugh le despenser earl of Winchester, an extension of the fair at the manor from the feast of St Bartholomew to two days after (B1).
