Description

There is evidence for one medieval market at Haddenham. The market was granted by charter and was to be held on a Thursday. The charter was dated 10 Spetember 1295 and was granted by King Edward I to the Prior and convent of Rochester. The market was to be held at the manor. In 1302, the charter was withdrawn at the request of John Dalderby, bishop of Lincoln, presumably because the market was detrimental to his own at Thame, Oxfordshire. The same charter also granted the Prior and convent of Rochester a fair, to be held on the vigil, feast and morrow of the Assumption, which fell on the 15th of August. This was also to be held at the manor (B1).
