Description

There is evidence for one medieval market at Amersham. The market was granted by charter and was to be held on Friday. It was described in the source as 'mercatum'. The charter was dated 18th July 1200 and was granted by King John to Geoffrey fitz Peter, earl of Essex. The market was cancelled and granted again on 9th April 1201.
There is evidence for one medieval fair at Amersham. The fair was to be held on the vigil and feast of the Nativity of Mary, whose feast falls on the 8th of September each year. It was granted, cancelled and re-granted on the same dates as the market, and was described as 'feria' (B1)
