Description

This test pit contained a rough limestone surface containing both medieval pottery (Potterspury Ware and shelly coarseware represented by a single sherd respectively), a sherd of late medieval Cistercian Ware, and a single sherd of red earthenware. On ceramic grounds, therefore, this feature might date from the mid-sixteenth century. No pottery was found sealed beneath this layer. Certainly structural, the function of this surface remains unclear (B1).
