  • COW HOUSE (17th Century to 18th Century - 1600 AD? to 1799 AD?)

Description

An outfield cowhouse, of uncertain date, possibly of the late 17th century. There is no indication of date of construction, but the quality of the work, includng the size of timbers used, suggests an early date, perhaps into the 17th century. An outfield cowhouse is a rare type of building to survive, particularly if it is 17th or 18th century. Its unusual attention to symmetry, suggests it may well have been built by the Stowe Estate in its early years of development, c.1700 (B1).
