Description

A building of at least two bays and probably originally longer, built in the early-mid 17th century and extended at various times later. The core of the building is a two-bay structure with offset gable stack at the end furthest away from the road. There is a third bay at the road end, but this appears to have been rebuilt, as it is slightly off line with the main structure, and has itself been extended towards the road to include the present gable stack and brick gable wall. The date of either rebuild is not clear. The plan is the only indication of date. It suggests that this is a building of the later 17th century, although the cut stop is perhaps an indication of a structure either early inthat century or earlier. It is quite possible that it was originally a timber framed building with plates on low stone sill walls, but this cannot be proved. The building occurs in the will of Susannah Smith dated 30.7.1793, who died in 1810. it is described as having Honey Land and orchard (B1).
19th century cottage built in brick and tile building with modern traditional style windows. There is a small modern timber lean to extension to the right hand side of the front facade. The building is positioned on an area of rising ground, and sits substantially higher up than the street level. (B2).
