Description
2 intercutting hearths or furnaces identified during excavation carried out in a tree-throw hole by Angus Wainwright of the National Trust following the storms of January 1990. Hearths comprised shallow, flat bottomed elongated pits with rounded ends and measuring 1.6m X 0.3m and 1.8m X 0.55m, and 0.25m deep. There were traces of burning 0.1m around the edges of the features. Wainwright notes that there was a layer of cobbles over the furnaces. The tree hole throw was apparently on the line of a bank. No further information, though the National Trust appears to have a pottery report relating to the site (B1).
