Description

Trial trenching by Cotswold Archaeology in May and June 2007 identified a thin, undated humic clay layer overlying natural alluvial clays and gravels in Trench 2. Interpreted as the early stages of formation of a peat horizon, possibly contemporary with Medieval peat horizons recorded during Oxford Archaeology evaluation for Project Phoenix [see CAS 08393]. See report for detail (B1).
