Description

Geophysical survey carried out by Wessex Archaeology in April 2008 in advance of proposed flood alleviation works, identified a NW-SE aligned linear anomaly (4001) visible as a slight bank, interpreted as a possible former field boundary (B1).
A track or driveway is shown at this location on historic OS maps and is likely to be the cause of the anomaly and surviving earthwork. The track lead from Lower Pound Lane at Lower Lodge to Gyldernscroft and seems to have been one of two main driveways to the house. First shown on the 1900 2nd edition 6-inch OS map and shown on subsequent OS maps until the mid 1950s when it was presumably levelled (B2).
NGR to centre of anomaly.
