Description

Aylesbury Masonic Hall was built in 1882 in the Victorian Gothic style and combines red brickwork with stone dressings. The building is symmetrical with a central two-storey bay protruding slightly forward of two side wings. The windows are lancet in shape with stone surrounds and the central doorway is decorated with stone columns topped with ornately carved capitals (B1).
Historic OS mapping shows the original building as an E-W range with a small off-centre porch to the north set back from the street frontage. The mapping appears to show that the building had been extended forwards to the frontage of Ripon Street sometime between the 1920s and the 1940s and this would seem to be corroborated by the roof lines visible in vertical APs (B2).
