Description

Quarry pits at N end of Pitstone Hill in an angle of hollow-way and 'upper Grim's Ditch'. Main area 38m long comprising two elongated pits, 20m and 17m wide, each 1.0m deep. Each may comprise two smaller circular pits as indicated by steps and ridges on floor of cut. Main pits linked by a slightly sunken and uneven area, possibly a further but backfilled pit. Low spoil dump on SW side of pits. In addition, four smaller individual pits lie to W. Each circular to oval 3m-7m in diameter, 0.5-1.3m deep (B1).
