Description

A geophysical survey by GeoQuest Associates was undertaken in June 1999 on land near Green Street in advance of the construction of a golf course. The magnetometry survey revealed three ditches of possible archaeological interest and several probably geological anomalies. In the area immediately to the west of Green Street there was a semi-circular anomaly and an L-shaped anomaly quite close to each other. The other ditch, possibly a former field boundary or older, was at the south side of the field (B1).
NGR to south end of Area 1.
Negative watching brief carried out by Foundations Archaeology in September 1999 in two areas of previous topsoil stripping (between proposed fairways for holes 10 and 14, and on 15th green). See interim report (B3).
Negative watching brief carried out by Cotswold Archaeology in the north-west corner (B4).
