Description

Geotechnical boreholes, trial pitting and sampling carried out across proposed redevelopment site in November 2003 recorded 0.4m to 2.1m of made ground across the whole site, with alluvium, black clay and peat deposits to the north and east of the mill and a probable gravel island to the south of the mill. Similar peat deposits at adjacent sites have been dated to the late Palaeolithic and Mesolithic and the black clay depositsto the Late Neolithic and Bronze Age. See report for details (B11).
