Description

Brewhouse and stabling erected by William Harris in about 1897 on site on three demolished cottages. By 1898 trading as Harris and Smith and described as a 5 quarter brewery. In 1899 Francis Delamotte Mott purchased maltings and land at Dagnall on behalf of his son W S Mott and joined Harris and Smith in partnership. In 1900 F D Mott bought out Harris and Smith, and the business passed to W S Mott in 1903, but by 1904 Mott was declared bankrupt and the brewery was sold to William Wilson in 1905. Benskins sold the maltings in 1928 to A Maling (B1).
'Brewery' marked on 1900 2nd edition 6-inch OS map but not on subsequent OS maps, so presumably no longer in operation by the 1920s (B2).
