Description

All Souls College Estate Map of 1595 shows that the site was part of the open fields of Maids Moreton. Shows ridge-and-furrow and field boundaries (B2).
Remains of ridge-and-furrow and field boundaries such as those identified on the 1595 estate map were found in a watching brief on geotechnical test-pits in 2005 (B3).
A geophysical survey comprising magnetic susceptibility and magnetometry revealed high levels of magnetic enhancement in the north of the field south of Park Manor Farm and low magnextic values in the south, perhaps reflecting waterlogging. Detailed magnetometry identified ridge-and-furrow and possible archaeological features, but these may be due to dumping or natural events (B4).
An archaeological evaluation of seventeen trenches were dug west of Moreton Road in a field south of Manor Farm. A single Middle Bronze Age cremation burial was found along with an area of burning that may have been contemporary. Some medieval to post-medieval field ditches and furrows were also excavated. The cremation was of an adult but the sex could not be determined (B1).
