Description
Remains of a single timber-framed house, originally known as The Dower House. Possibly a hall-house with double crosswings? The central range [presumably a hall?] has been demolished, leaving only single bays attached to the each crosswing. The bay attached to the north crosswing shows signs of jettying, the bay attached to the south crosswing has two blocked fireplaces. Only the two crosswings survive intact: Summers Cottage [CAS 10296] is the north crosswing and Gable Cottage [CAS 10297] the south crosswing (B1).
The two houses [Summers Cottage and Gable Cottage] were the cross wings of a single C16-C17 house; the middle has mostly gone. Timber-framed with brick nogging. A lower wing at the back is in the same technique (B2).
