Description

Evaluation trial trenching carried out in April 2007 by John Moore Heritage Services identified 3 ditches, 1 pit and 1 posthole with fills containing 11th to 12th century pottery in Trenches 1, 2, 3 and 4. A further 2 ditches, 2 pits and 1 posthole were also thought to be contemporary. Interpreted as a series of settlement property boundaries aligned on Moat Lane, with settlement abandoned before the 13th century, perhaps due to expansion of the manor. 4 ditches, 1 pit, 1 gully and 3 postholes in Trench 5 were all undated, but thought to be possibly Iron Age in date (B1).
NGR to Trench 1.
