Description
Evaluation trial trenching carried out by John Moore Heritage Services in April 2007 identified a wide flat-bottomed ditch 1.2m - 1.8m wide, 0.4m deep and at least 15m long aligned NNE-SSW in Trenches 1 and 2, with a gully 0.4m wide running off it nearly at right angles. Finds of probable Iron Age pottery and daub were recovered from the fills. A narrow-based shallow gully 0.36m wide and 0.3m deep, aligned NW-SE was dated by a find of probable Iron Age pottery from its fill. A shallow recut posthole in Trench 4 was also dated to the Iron Age by a possible late Iron Age toggle. 5 undated ditches in Trench 5 and 3 undated shallow postholes in Trench 5 may also be contemporary. The ditches and gullies are interpreted as boundary ditches with the possible postholes representing settlement remains (B1).
NGR to ditch in Trench 2.
