Description
'Gas Works' with a single gas holder shown on 1900 2nd edition 6-inch OS map. It is not clear from the historic 6-inch maps when the gas works went out of use and the gas holder was demolished (B2).
Private gasworks built to light Tile House, which later became Charmadean School. Gasometer visible but unmarked present on the 1900 OS map located within Gashouse Plantation indicating a private gasworks. The gasworks buildings still stand and are known as ‘Gas House’, south of Tile House (or what remains of it) (B4).
