Description

The pottery assemblage comprised 14 sherds with a total weight of 174g. It comprised a range of medieval and later wares, with the range of fabrics present suggesting there was an hiatus in medieval activity at the site between the middle of the 13th century and the 15th century. Only one sherd was in a stratified context, a twelfth century sherd in subsoil. Other pottery is not out of context as 'background noise'. None of the pottery is suggestive of occupation of immediate settlement activity (B1). NGR to centre of trench in field named as Seaton Butts on 1629 Lily's map, Field 2 in watching brief, where the only piece of stratified pot was found.
