Description

The lynchets on the east margins of the survey area general follow the natural contours. They are probably the results of ploughing and past cultivation of the hill top on which the wood has subsequently developed. The eastern set of lynchets is the largest concentration. They vary in size, the largest measuring up to 4m wide and 1.5m high. They are not continuous but run in interrupted lengths, occasionally turning through 90 degrees. There are connecting banks between the lynchets (see CAS 2435:05) (B8). NGR to centre of distribution.
