Description

5 HAND AXES AND 2 FLAKES FROM BRITWELL, DESCRIBED & SKETCHED, INCLUDING 1 AXE MADE ON A FLAKE. FOUND 1896-7 (B1,3). SURFACE LEVEL OF BOYN HILL TERRACE RANGES FROM UP TO C.58M AT E BURNHAM DOWN TO C.46M AT BRITWELL, ON ITS S MARGIN. EXACT LOCATION OF FINDS UNKNOWN, BUT PROB SMALL PITS IN THIS AREA AT END OF C19 (B2). NGR TO BRITWELL FARM (B4).



I. SU 938827. The exact location of the palaeoliths found at Britwell is not known but small pits probably existed in this area at the end of the 19th c. Finds comprise 3 hand axes and 3
flakes all in Aylesbury Museum. (Accn Nos 2 hand axes and 2 flakes 550.05; 1 hand axe 4.55 and 1 flake 184.14) (B2).
