Grade II. Farmhouse. Possibly C15 with addition 1st half C16 and mid-C17 modifications; C18, C19 and C20 alterations and additions. Timber framed with wattle and daub infill, some replaced by brick; pebble-dashed render to front and sides; painted brick at rear. Plain tile roof, with concrete tiles to front and clay tile: to rear; corrugated-iron roof to most of outshut. Brick stacks. 2-bay hall house with central crown post to right, addition of 2 framed bays with smoke-blackened roof timbers; floors inserted and large chimney stacks added, internally at left end and with partition wall inserted to create narrow bay; and externally at right end; rear outshut added under cat-slide roof and lean-to at each gable. South front: plinth to ; left-hand bays, and part-glazed door on right of this section. 2-Light window to left of door and two 3-Light windows beyond; two 3-Light gabled dormers above; and a 3-Light window to each floor o right-hand section, all windows wooden casements with vertical glazing bars. Left-hand stack rise through ridge near left end; right-hand stack is external, enclosed by lean-to which has board door, pebble-dashed front and weatherboard to side and rear. Left-hand lean-to timber-framed wit! weatherboard. Rear: outshut almost continuous, except across left end, has C20 window on left, blocked window on right, gabled 2-Light dormer above, and doorway to each return. Interior: ground floor ha chamfered spine-beams, that in right-hand cell terminating in entrance passage with lambs-tongue stop with truncated pyramid in hollow. At left end, built into gap behind stack, is C18 cupboard wit! open-fronted, round-arched, upper cupboard with decoratively carved shelves. The timber-framing c the rear wall is visible from the outshut and comprises large-scantling posts and mid-rail, close-space studs forming narrow rectangular panels, and some remaining wattle and daub. Square-panelled timber-framing of right-hand gable wall is visible inside lean-to. 1st floor: between left-hand bays is cambered tie-beam with crown post supporting collar purlin; post has broad corner chamfers an cyma-moulded head with cyma stops to chamfered sides; arch brace from rear wall-post to tie-bean. The extreme left-hand end, visible from inside lean-to, retains diagonally-set clasped purlins, some original rafters, and arched brace from rear wall-post to wall-plate. The inserted 1st-floor partition wall is of square-panelled timber-framing with brick infill. Other framing concealed by wall paper, but in right-hand bay at rear some original smoke-blackened rafters are exposed, and straight wind-braces. Old doors, panelled and plank, survive throughout; also wooden winder stair; and plain fireplace surround to left-hand room. An interesting and well-surviving example of a late-medieval hall-house with post-medieval addition (B1).
