Description

Initial (reconnaisance) survey carried out by David Radford of BCC in April 2005 identified 1 internal bank, 2 sawpits (both filled in), a possible charcoal hearth, 1 trackway, 2 quaries/pits and some old coppicing. The woodland comprised mixed high canopy deciduous trees around the perimeter of the wood with patches of dense conifer in the interior. The trackway or double boundary runs N-S downhill from the wood and is punctuated by one of the quarry pits. Shallow earthworks ('terrace' and ditch) are visible next to the railway cutting (B1).
