Description

High Wycombe Cottage Hospital built in 1874-5 to designs by Arthur Vernon. The steeply sloping sites enabled the architect to tuck the mortuary on to the back at lower-ground level. The building had an almost colonial appearance with deep eaves and a veranda running across the central three bays (B1).
High Wycombe and Earl of Beaconsfield Memorial Cottage Hospital (formerly High Wycombe Cottage Hospital) (B2).
Built by voluntary public subscription. In 1875 it had 8 beds and in its first year treated 41 people (B4).
Opened in 1875, initially with two wings and a veranda. A third wing was added in 1891 and by the end of the 19th century it offered 12 beds and two cots. Replaced in 1927 by the High Wycombe and District War Memorial Hospital [CASS 09406] (B5).
New wing, called the Disraeli Wing opened in December 1891 by Coningsby Disraeli, and hospital subsequently renamed (B3).
Buildings report dated March 1992 held at NMR (B6)
