Description

In Soulbury Payne holds 5 1/2 hides and the third part of one virgate from William [son of Ansculf]. Land for 17 ploughs; in lordship 3. 14 villagers with 5 smallholders have 9 ploughs; a further 5 ploughs possible. 3 slaves; 1 mill at 16s; meadow for 3 ploughs. In total the value is and was £7; before 1066 £8. 11 Freemen held this manor; they could sell.
In Soulbury Roger holds 1 hide and 1 1/2 virgates from Miles [Crispin]. Land for 3 ploughs; in lordship 1. 2 villagers have another; a third possible. Meadow for 2 ploughs. The value is and always was 20s. Aelmer, Brictric's man, held this land; he could not sell except with his permission.
In Soulbury Hugh [of Beauchamp] holds 2 parts of one virgate. Land for 4 oxen. The value is and was 3s; before 1066, 4s. Dot, a man of God (?), held this land; he could sell to whom he would.
In Soulbury Jocelyn [the Breton] holds 1 1/2 hides and the third part of 1 virgate as one manor. Land for 4 ploughs; in lordship 1/2 hide; 1 plough there. 4 villagers with 2 smallholders have 3 ploughs. 3 slaves; 1 mill at 16s; meadow for 1 plough. The value is and always was 40s. Alwin, Edeva the Fair's man, held this manor; he could sell.
Azelina wife of Ralph Tallboys holds 1/2 hide in Soulbury from the King. Land for 1 plough; it is there. Meadow for 1 plough. The value is and always was 10s. Two Englishmen hold it and held it themselves before 1066.
In Soulbury Godwin the Beadle holds 1/2 hide from the King. Land for 1 plough; it is there, with 1 smallholder. Meadow for 1 plough. The value is and always was 7 1/2 s. Alric Bolest held before 1066. The present holder says this, that after King William's arrival it was forfeited (B1).
