Description
Roque's map of 1762 shows three dwellings with garden plots located on or very close to Dropmore House. Jeffery's 1770 map shows six dwellings within or in the immediate vicinity of the current Dropmore House. The hamlet is named 'Dropmer Hill'. By 1824 Dropmore Estate had been created, Dropmore House built and the settlement cleared as shown by Bryant's map (B1).
Evaluation trial trenching carried out by Heritage Network in August 2005 found a possible posthole 0.51m long, 0.49m wide and 0.2m deep, filled with post-medieval pottery, tile and animal bone in Trench 1. The posthole may have been associated with the hamlet of Dropmer Hill (B2).
NGR to Trench 1.
