Description

In Marsh [Gibbon] the monks of Grestain hold 11 hides from the Count [of Mortain]. Land for 13 ploughs; in lordship 4 hides; 3 ploughs there. 17 villagers with 3 smallholders have 10 ploughs. 8 slaves. In total, the value is and always was £8. Ulf son of Borgred held this manor; he could sell. A man of Bondi the Constable's had 1/2 hide there; he could sell.
In Marsh [Gibbon] Alric holds 4 hides from William [son of Ansculf] as one manor. Land for 5 ploughs; in lordship 2. 5 villagers with 3 smallholders have 3 ploughs. 3 slaves; meadow for 5 ploughs; woodland, 30 pigs. The value is and always was 70s. He held it himself before 1066, but now he holds it from William at a revenue, harshly and wretchedly (B1).
NGR to centre of village.
Over 30 houses burnt in a fire at Marsh Gibbon in June 1740 (B2).
