Description

'Pit' shown on 1st edition 6-inch OS map (Bucks sheet 20, surveyed 1879); 'Sand Pit' shown on 1st edition 25-inch OS map (Bucks sheet 20.11, surveyed 1879) (B1).

A post-medieval sand pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located within Oak Wood and centred at SP 91096 28765, the irregularly shaped extraction site is about 140 metres NNE-SSW and 40 metres WNW-ESE at their widest points, covering an area about 3,425 square metres (2-3) .
