An old chalk pit of post medieval date is visible on remote sensing data as extant earthworks and was mapped as part of the Aylesbury Vale Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18604). Located approximately 340m east of Lodge Farm, Buckland, and centred at SP 489897 211192. The pit is a long narrow subrectangular pit measuring approximately 66x24m at its largest and is cut in to underlying solid geology of West Melbury Marly Chalk Formation, mainly used for beer stone, clunch and lime. It is visible as a small wooded area in 1945 but is clearly visible as an earthwork on lidar visualisations. (2-4)
