Description

'Pit' shown on 6-inch OS (surveyed 1930); and 1:10,000 OS (surveyed 1978) (B1).

An early 20th century extractive pit is visible on historic aerial photographs and remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of the North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project (EBC18304). Located in fields NE of North End, Stewkley and centred at SP 84982 27234, the irregularly shaped extractive pit is about 1,141 square metres in area. It was not recorded on the 1881 1st edition OS map, but it is recorded on the 1925 OS map (2-6).
